Walled Garden, Lacock Abbey
July is the peak of the British summer, bursting with vibrant blooms like classic roses, fragrant sweet peas, and towering delphiniums. Cottage garden favourites such as cosmos, dahlias, and love-in-a-mist are also in full swing. I hope you and your gardens are coping with the heat. The forecast is for mini heatwaves throughout the summer months.
It is also the month where preparations for the Eaton Bishop Village Show are in full swing too. The Gardening club historically organised the show. It is now co-ordinated by the Eaton Bishop Village Hall Committee but with support from members of the Gardening Club.
Therefore, first item in this month’s news is
A Call for Help, please, Ladies and Gentlemen.
· 3 or 4 people are needed to help set up for the show on Friday 14th August in the afternoon to put tables out and to erect a large Gazebo.
· 3 or 4 people are then needed to put the tables away and take down the Gazebo on Monday 17th August in the morning.
· 4 people are needed to man the entrances on Sunday 16th August from 13.45 – 4.30pm and take the admission fee. 1 or 2 extra folks would be helpful to relieve the ‘Door Keepers’ and let them have a wander around the show and enjoy a cup of tea and a cake!
· Donations of cakes for the refreshments are also needed. Homemade or shop bought.
· And finally your participation is invited to make this community event a success. Schedules with details of the classes are available from the village hall where they are positioned outside the front door or from Locks Garage, Clehonger Shop, Madley Plants and Kingstone Store.

Eaton Bishop Gardening Club, we feel is one of Herefordshire’s best kept secrets! We are wanting to expand our visibility with the development of our very own website. Do you or anyone you know have the skills and enthusiasm to create a website? We are looking for someone with the knowledge, time and expertise to undertake this task for the club, please. If you are or know anyone who is interested, please reply to me, Lorraine, Club Secretary.
Our next meeting will be the AGM on 21st October at the regular time of 19.30. Once the business is concluded we will share cheese and wine together. Any matters you would like raised at the AGM must be submitted to the Secretary by 14th October please.
The Executive team have recognised the long gap over the summer months when we are not meeting due to the Village Show and the Club Holiday. This will be changed for 2027 where only August will not have a Gardening Club event.
Until we meet again here are a few ideas to inspire your gardening and/or entertain you in these precious months of glorious colour.
Dear Eaton Bishop Gardening Club,
This month at Canwood Gallery, we are delighted to present Becoming, a major new exhibition by Jane Tudge, charting an extraordinary journey through the seasons of a country garden on the Herefordshire/Worcestershire border.
We’d like to invite you to come and discover an exhibition that celebrates the beauty, fragility and continual transformation of the natural world and one that may change the way you look at your own garden forever.
Jane will be exhibiting until 12th July and the gallery is open from Thursday to Sunday, 11.00 am to 4.00 pm. We also have an on-site café serving hot drinks and snacks and you can pre-order picnics here.
Click here for more information about Jane and her work.
Please could you let your members know about Jane’s exhibition as we feel it might be of interest to them.
Best wishes,
Hannah, Director.

Lady Elizabeth’s Rose Garden, Lacock Abbey

Every Wednesday we get together in the hall for tea or coffee with biscuits and most weeks, some homemade cake. There is no charge but small donations are welcome to help cover the costs. Everyone is welcome, we have regular visitors from Clehonger, Kingstone and Madley as well as locals. The more, the noisier...
Come along on Wednesday and meet us!
